(NC) We all need to work to pay our bills. But, for most of us, we want our job to be about more than just a paycheque. The best careers involve doing something that you like, that fuels your mind, and that is also suited to your unique strengths. Here are four things to think about when you’re on the hunt to find a job or career that suits you.
How social are you?
For many, one of the silver linings to come out of the pandemic was the opportunity to do their job from the comfort of home and avoid the time and stress of commuting. Others couldn’t wait to get back to office for the water-cooler chats and other social outlets. If you’re the kind of person who thrives on both, look for a role with a hybrid work environment.
What are your dealbreakers?
Does the thought of sitting at a desk in front of a computer for an entire workday terrify you? Try looking outside the corporate office world for more dynamic roles, that involve more standing, movement and interaction. If you’re the type of person who cranks up the heat and throws on an extra sweater as soon as the temperatures drop, maybe consider a job that’s based indoors (at least for the winter).
What makes you happiest?
Do you get a thrill working on your own crunching numbers? Do you thrive on meeting and interacting with new people? Do you want to contribute to society? Consider whether roles you’re exploring will scratch that itch and where you can find pride in your work.
Consider a career in agriculture
While a career in agriculture might conjure up images of fields and tractors, the reality is, career possibilities in agriculture span a huge variety of sectors, including IT, communications, policy development, industry engagement, and science and technology.
